God doesn't give children with special needs to strong people; He gives children with special needs to ordinary, weak people and then gives them strength. Raising a child with special needs doesn't take a special family, it makes a special family.

"I am the mother of a handicapped child. It isn't a tragedy. It's the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me, because now I know what it is to truly love-it's sacrifice. It taught me compassion, understanding, and patience. Because before I gave birth to my baby, it was all about me. My life revolved around my own conveniences, and comfort was my only concern. Now, I worry less about myself and more about others. It has made me a richer person; maybe not monetarily, but spiritually.
So if I look flustered or tired, sad or stressed, know that my life wouldn't be better if my child were never born. If you feel helpless offer help or a kind word instead of criticism. You might as well stab me in the heart. My child's life is worth living! Not just because I wanted mine, but because it's a true gift from God."

I saw this when I was online looking for a t-shirt and in so many ways it says what I want to tell people sometimes. So often people offer sympathy for what we go through with SB and feel bad because Brenden can't walk. I have said it so many times, but I wouldn't trade Brenden for the world. He has taught me more in the past 2.5 years than I ever could have imagined. God has a plan....Brenden IS God's plan. He is just the way God created him and I can only trust in Him to carry us through the storm that is Spina Bifida.
And with that said, I leave you with some pictures from today! I love Fall, and it seems that Brenden LOVES pumpkins just as much as I do. He also loves the tons of buffalo at Orr's (a local farmers market for you non-locals!) and we ride out to see them SEVERAL times a week. He always asks to go talk to the buffalo (and we often use that as bribery when he is behaving less than perfect!). I would love to get a picture of him next to the fence with the buffalo, but quite honestly, the beastly creatures kind of intimidate me (I think Jonathan, too!) so maybe one day when they aren't right up along the fence, we will make an attempt!

Beautiful words and adorable pictures - this combination of reality and blissful dreams-come-true happiness is what life and love are all about.

I have that 'poem' on my diaper bag (thanks Cafe Press). I think it says everything I want, and gets the point across.
Love the pumpkin pics!
