God doesn't give children with special needs to strong people; He gives children with special needs to ordinary, weak people and then gives them strength. Raising a child with special needs doesn't take a special family, it makes a special family.

Guess I lied when I said it may be a while before I posted :)

We had quite a busy weekend full of big milestones. Yesterday I completed Freedom's Run 2011 Half Marathon. It was a last minute decision earlier this week and about 4 miles into the race I was wondering why in the world I made such a decision. After registering for the race I read all the reviews about the full and half marathon....and basically everyone said it was the most difficult course they had ever run. For those of you who aren't local, Freedom's Run goes through four National Parks, so it is a very scenic run, however VERY tough! Miles 3-9 were pretty much uphill....like the biggest hills you can imagine running up. Mile 3 led into Antietam Battlefield and that was where the real torture began. Most of the hills forced everyone to walk up, run the brief downhill, and then back to walking up another one. I've never been so happy as I was to leave Antietam!! The rest of the race was fairly easy thank goodness. I talked to several full marathoners who said they are always 20 minutes slower on this race course than any other races they run, so my slower than normal time, wasn't as much a disappointment.

Along with a difficult course, we were hit with cold, wind, and rain. The weather forecast called for 60 degree temps, but that never happened. The rain came around mile 2, shortly after came the wind. Needless to say I was a cold, wet, shivering mess by the end of the race. But I finished all 13.1 miles :)

Today we spent in D.C. for Jonathan's graduation ceremony....he received his Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice. He plans to continue towards his Bachelor's, but wanted to attend this ceremony to make sure his parents were able to go. He has a few weeks left in 2 classes and he will officially receive his degree....as long as the math class doesn't bring his demise.
