God doesn't give children with special needs to strong people; He gives children with special needs to ordinary, weak people and then gives them strength. Raising a child with special needs doesn't take a special family, it makes a special family.

Many of you know that about 2 weeks ago Brenden got his new walker....and well, he's been doing amazing!!!! We can never get a video to post on here, so I posted it on You Tube and will copy the link!!
Please also continue to keep Brenden, Jonathan, and I in your prayers. May 13 Brenden will be having a rather major surgery. The Neurosurgeon has decided after the follow up MRI that it is best to go ahead and drain the cyst on Brenden's spine. If left alone, it could put pressure on the spinal cord, causing some pretty serious problems. He will also be doing a Chiari decompression, which involves removing a piece of Brenden's skull as well as the C1 vertabrae. Kids born with spina bifida also have Chiari Malformation, which is when the cerebellum is 'pulled' down into the spinal column. With this decompression surgery, the pressure on the cerebellum should be relieved, which will allow CSF to have better flow, in turn, hopefully will keep another cyst from forming. Did ya get all that?!?!
Jonathan and I were definitely taken off guard, especially since the Neurosurgeon wasn't really concerned after the first MRI. It was actually the radiologist that wanted the follow up. But I think we are now at peace with him going in for surgery. We trust Dr. Jane completely and know that he has Brenden's best interest at heart. This surgery will be longer than the one at birth, so please keep Jonathan and I in your prayers. Also pray for a quick recovery and short hospital stay for Brenden (and me...nights in hospital chairs are never fun)!!
